DALLAS, August 2, 2018 – Avix Aero has been issued two key patents protecting its methods and technology used in its Strut Data Collection System (SDCS). These patents, which are focused on proprietary algorithms for calculating center of gravity without calculating aircraft weight using data from aircraft landing gear and methods for recovering non-recognized weight errors in load buildup methods, have been incorporated into Avix’s SDCS solution. With these algorithms and methods, operators using the SDCS now have a clear pathway to curtailment relief while also assuring that center of gravity and weight can be validated without the concern of operational delays due to load calculation conflicts.
“These patents make the SDCS the only onboard weight and balance validation system that eliminates the risk of departure delays while also providing a way for operators to justify curtailment relief,” said Kirk Nance, Avix’s Senior Technical Fellow and inventor of the SDCS. “These patents bring our patent library to twelve issued patents, and we have fifteen more in the application process.”
Prior On-Board Weight and Balance Systems have offered real-time weight measurements which, while useful, generated concerns from dispatchers about weight conflict delays due to difference found between the airline’s planned weight to that of a real-time measured weight. With this intellectual property incorporated into the SDCS, the Avix solution relieves those concerns by instead validating the airlines planned weight against measured strut pressures ranges within the weight accuracy tolerances defined by recent FAA Advisory Circulars; this eliminates the risk of a departure delay unless the identified weight vs. pressure difference indicates an error above a safety threshold proscribed by the FAA and the aircraft OEM.

ABOUT AVIX AERO
Avix Aero, LLC (“Avix”) is an aerospace company producing game-changing commercial aircraft technology and solutions. Avix brings a unique combination of technical innovation, engineering and certification expertise and commercial airline experience that creates pragmatic solutions that improve safety and airline operational efficiency. The company’s inaugural product, the Strut Data Collection System (SDCS), is a leading-edge onboard aircraft weight and balance measurement system that collects landing gear strut pressures from each gear position. This data is analysed using proprietary Avix algorithms for validation of primary load buildup methods, touchdown analysis, and data analytics across flight segments. Avix is based in Dallas, Texas.
