DALLAS, June 19, 2017 – Avix Aero's Strut Data Collection System (SDCS) has completed 1,800 flights on a Boeing 737-700 operated by a commercial airline. Data collected through the deployment of the SDCS verifies accuracy and reliability of the system.
“The completion of these flights on an in-service passenger aircraft marks an important milestone in the commercialization of our Strut Data Collection System,” commented Kirk Nance, Avix’s Senior Technical Fellow and inventor of the new technologies. “The on-aircraft hardware and software performed flawlessly and confirms our belief that this technology will help make airlines safer with automated validation of departure weights and provide new tools to increase efficiencies in fuel management and on-time performance.”
The SDCS was installed on a single Boeing 737-700 and operated on just over 1,800 flights. Avix and the operator collaborated on the evaluation, with the airline sharing load manifest calculations for over 300 of those flights for comparison and validation purposes. Additionally, weighing tests were performed using digital scales with various passenger, baggage and fuel loading configurations. The system performed well under both test and flight operation scenarios.
